Scion is dead IMO. no more XB, no more Scion. It’s like if Honda didn’t make a Civic, or Ford stopped making the F-150. They are deleting the very thing that defined the brand. The funky, fun, and useful box that you could pick up for cheap, and it would serve you well from highschool to your 30’s with to kids. Now that’s gone, now they make a Corolla hatchback, a Mazda, and a...Subaru Celica.
In other news my local Toyota dealership got it’s first iM(stupid name) in “Spring green”. Which is actually the color you get when your yellow highlighter touches your green highlighter a bit.
Now I don’t hate the car on it’s own. I actually almost like the way it looks. I just hate that Toyota is lying to me about this car. Their trying to tell us it’s unique and cool and fun. When really it’s just a Corolla, with a CVT, and an unexciting 130hp 1.8l. (Yes, you can get a 6 speed manual but no one will.) They are selling an exciting car without actually making an exciting car. An ST twin competitor this ain’t.
I also saw one of these things the other day out in the wild. Nightmare fuel.

“Man, Mazda hit one out of the park with that design language. You know what the market needs? That, but infinitely uglier!”

I think the xB died in 2007. And I think the reason was, rather than (as the original sales plan went) hip edgy youths going to the showrooms, buying the original xB, and stuffing it with speakers and disco-lights (because,
duh
, hip edgy youths can’t afford to buy
any
car showroom-new), instead middle-aged Camry shoppers happened to glance over when pricing their next suburban yawnmobile and said, “Wow, this boxy-looking thing is
better in every way we care about
than a Camry, and it costs $8000 less!” Well, Toyota of America couldn’t have that kind of profit-killer in their showrooms, so they promptly ruined the xB.

So true. GAZE UPON THIS MASTERPIECE:
No thanks, Mazda. We’d have no use for this.

That said, the iM actually looks good. With a 180hp engine it’d be worth a second look.

I don’t mind the iM but I’d be more likely to buy it if it carried an actual Toyota badge rather than the Scion.

Toyota design in a nutshell.

The iM is supposed to get comparable fuel economy to the Yaris. I like it quite a bit but I would prefer it was sold as a Toyota, because it’s just an Australian corolla hatchback

I can’t believe how wrong they could get the design in the iA. Seriously, HOW COULD THEY?!

The iM is basically the Toyota Matrix reborn. Maybe that's what the M in iM stands for. Pity they gave it a CVT though. Maybe with AWD, a 6-speed and TRD go fast bits, it could be fun.

Toyota continues to prove that Scion isn’t for young people.

Has scion ever lived? They said they’d introduce totally new replacement cars every few years to keep from growing old yet the xB and xA lived forever, the tC seems like it’s been around 15 years, the iM is a dud, etc
They tried to target young buyers, but every xB i see is a 45+ year old. Have i ever seen an xA?

That’s what I’m sayin’ Scion needs to go the way of Mercury, and Oldsmobile.

My older brother way their target audience, he’s 33 now. But, He bought his 06 Xb in 08 used. He LOVES it. For his family of 4 it’s all they need, and it’s been reliable and cheap to own.
But like I said he didn’t buy it new. I think thats the problem. Targeting a young audience doesn’t work because most of us twenty somethings are either to poor, or to thrifty to go buy a brand new car, even a cheap one.

Because it’s just Toyota..., and Subaru, and Mazda

The xB was good, yes it was. I’m 28 so their cars SHOULD have been appealing to me, but maybe I’m too *into* cars and most buyers don’t realize there are better offerings then the tC, xA, etc.
Even though the xB was good, if i were in the “boxy” market I’d rather have the (shudder) element.
Scion could’ve been great but Toyota didn’t really give it the opportunities. The FR-S is exciting to some people, but sportier Matrix would’ve been good - give it the goofy accessories that the fast&furious crowd loved and they would’ve had a great version of a great car.
Hell, the Tacoma XRunner would’ve been a good Scion I think
